We often talk about decentralized technologies, DAOs, and automated smart contracts. But how do we bridge the gap between the high-tech tools of Web3 and the harsh physical reality of grassroots social work?
In our “Creativity Lab” project in Estonia, we use art therapy, polymer casting, air-drying, drawing, and mini-scenes with Bibabo dolls to combat cognitive impairment and profound isolation among the elderly and people living with cognitive issues.
Here’s our dilemma: a software developer can show lines of code. An infrastructure project can show square meters of paved road. But how can a Web3 donor measure the sparkle in the eyes of a lonely grandmother who smiled for the first time in months because she picked up a brush? How can the restoration of fine motor skills be incorporated into a digital report?
What is the best way for physical, low-tech grassroots projects to prove their impact to the digital crypto community without drowning in paperwork?
How can blockchain platforms better support projects where the end “product” is human dignity and emotional recovery?
This is important for GIV token holders and the Giveth community, because funding “Public Goods” shouldn’t just mean funding software. True public goods are also created on the ground, in local nursing homes and community centers. If we find a more effective and engaging way to connect crypto donors with a real emotional impact (through transparent wishlists like Amazon’s and direct photo and video reports), we can unleash a huge wave of meaningful philanthropy.
