GIVbacks Token List

What is GIVbacks?

As you may know, GIVbacks is Giveth’s way of “giving back” to donors to awesome projects on Giveth.io. GIVbacks rounds last two weeks, during which time we track donations to Verified Projects. After the round ends, GIVbacks are distributed to the donors who can claim their rewards from the GIVbacks page. To read more about GIVbacks and how they work, check out our documentation.

What is the “GIVbacks Token List”?

A donor can donate any ERC-20 token to projects on Giveth.io on xDai or Mainnet. However, only donations to Verified Projects in certain tokens are eligible for GIVbacks. This restriction ensures that we are able to get accurate price data for donations (a requirement for fair distribution of GIVbacks), and prevents bad actors from gaming the GIVbacks program. This list was the conclusion of previous discussion in the forum.

We want to rewards real donors who donate to real change-making projects!

Taking a page out of Balancer’s book this forum post will be home to the GIVbacks Token List. Our initial GIVbacks Token List (starting with GIVbacks Round 1) includes tokens we currently have price data for on giveth.io - the tokens we have included in the donation token drop-down. Only donations to Verified Projects in the following tokens will be eligible for GIVbacks. The lists are as follow:

How will this list will be updated?

For now, anyone who wants the community to consider adding a token to this list may do so by making a comment on this forum post. The specific criteria for token list compatibility is not yet defined but the intention is to consider tokens suggested by the community and then let the community vote to decide if they should be added to the list.

Hey Hi!

Exciting news and a request to facilitate an amazing evolution in Costa Rica’s crypto scene!

REQUEST: Please add the CR Coin token to the qualified token list for GIVbacks.

JUSTIFICATION: This is a token that is accepted by 50+ businesses in San Jose, and 126 showing today across Costa Rica on the Blockchain Paradise network.

Why is this so exciting? Having this token in the GIVeconomy encourages and rewards the donation of the token by significant holders to projects in Costa Rica listed on Giveth (nearly 40 projects now!).

Projects that receive the token can distribute it directly to participants in the project for their contributions, and instead of selling for cash, they can spend it with businesses that will continue to circulate the coin!

BUT WAIT There’s More!
One of the projects on Giveth, Colorado Multiversity (Colorado is a barrio in San Jose, CR), has been offered a piece of land for their project in the locality - and, the owner is willing to accept half of the payment in CR Coin Then they can donate part of the payment right into other projects, bringing new players into the GIVeconomy.

There are multiple large token holders ready to hit the button and donate this coin right away - over 100,000 usd worth is committed. San Jose is HOT on Giveth. And has invited me to speak about it at this conference. I imagine a liquidity pool in the future for GIV/CR. This is a very promising step for local economies in the region as we accelerate into the Gurves!

Hello, I’m Ronny Castillo, from San José and have been actively promoting Giveth to different projects in my network. I’m also promoting the Colorado Multiversity project, and we are very grateful for this funding tool. We have a donor commitment to help us buy 7 Ha of land where the Rio Torres is born in the mountains of San José, accepting at least 50% of the payment with CR Coin, and would be great to offer GIVbacks to this donor. This property is one of the closest forests to the city.

UPDATE: There are many CRC tokens and our current implementation won’t consider this as the search is happening through the “unique” symbol. We need to make a more robust solution, I’ll be talking to the team this week and prioritize it

Seeing a bit beyond, I believe the reason of not showing the price is because the token has no liquidity

We can totally list the token to allow donations but I don’t believe we’ll be able to do GIVbacks from it

How much liquidity is there?

The average volume traded is around $4000 vrs BTC and $2000 vrs DCC daily

The spread for the price is 43% vs DCC (and worse, 53% vs BTC)… as in the last buy was for 1.77 DCC and the last sell was for 1 DCC…

The liquidity for this token is inadequate for our needs. We need to be able to get a USD price for the token reliably, as in, we need to say with certainty a USD value donated at the time of donation.

Right now, if I donate 100 CR, what is that in USD?

We have to be careful when adding low liquidity coins to our token list. Someone could use the coin to game GIVbacks, they could go buy a bunch of the low liquidity coin pumping the price A LOT, and then donate some of it, and then sell the rest of the tokens they bought… getting a bunch of GIV without really donating as much value as it looks like.

The other issue, even if there was a lot of liquidity there, we would have to build a one-off pricing tool for this one token so we could grab the price off this exchange, which i think also would be a blocker.

If there was a Uniswap, Honeyswap, or similar pool of CR Coin vs DAI or ETH or something like that with a history of price movement and a chunk of liquidity, it would be possible to list this token.

Hi Dani, sounds exciting, I was 4 months in Costa Rica in the last 12 months, but didn’t know about the existence of this coin. However, is it still used? When I click on the coingecko link on etherscan, it says the coin has been desactivated, and also the website doesn’t seem to work?

Hi, as recommended by giveth on twitter (https://twitter.com/Givethio/status/1605239329982279685) as a reply to my question, I hereby propose to add CULT to the “GIVbacks Token List”.

Indeed, Cultdao has already a collaboration with giveth, there was a proposal that was passed and so Cultdao invested 13 eth in GIV tokens, also there was a CULT/ETH regen farm set up, so with the idea in mind to set up a Cult Community Project on Giveth.io to donate for a noble cause, it seems logical to me that people from the community should be able to donate in CULT if they wish so, and earn GIVbacks.

I have removed these tokens from the list.

I’m curious how this coincides with the process of token nomination in the forum. Will the process for nominating tokens still be the same? Will there be new guidelines to communicate?

We didnt make any new guidelines, its just that these tokens met the guidelines a year ago, but don’t meet them any more.

For tokens to get GIVbacks, they have to have enough liquidity for an accurate price… These just don’t anymore.
