DAO Ops Season 2.5 Proposal - Merging Rewards

The DAO Ops WG would like to revise and submit a new Season 2 Proposal - call it Season 2.5 :grinning:

Rewards WG is migrating their activities to become part of DAO Ops - check out this forum post for a wrap-up from Rewards.

What does this mean?

Most of Rewards activities remain the same, Praise will still happen and everyone keeps getting GIV for being praised! Do not panic! :stop_sign:

In practical terms, we will incorporate the budgeting and deliverables into the scope of DAO Ops. Given this we feel it is appropriate to inform everyone and have a proper governance process to get aligned with the DAO.

In this forum post we will reiterate our deliverables & our spending from the past season. Then we will propose our combined Rewards & DAO Ops goals & budget for Season 2.5!

If you’re not sure what DAO Ops or Rewards is about, read up on the previous season proposals:

Most of the retrospective information below is redundant from the Season 2 proposal - If you want to get into the meat of this proposal continue down to Season 2.5 Deliverables & Budgeting

Spending

We spent a total of $62,874.17 during Season 1 (~June 10 - October 10) and also gained $9,534.57 in income from GM services partnership resulting in a net spend of $53,339.60

Our estimated costs for S1 $33,500 - This was including estimated revenue from Giveth contributors providing fundraising services to Giveth. Our final costs are 37% above our S1 estimate.

This was due to Giveth contributors not working so much for GM and GM providing more Fundraising services to Giveth, as well as GG18 incurred more expenses as well for fundraising work done by the Comms Chapter.

We estimated ~$15k revenue from Giveth fundraising services but the final season total only accumulated ~9.5k.

Also some GM contributors who spend most of their time working in Giveth do so at a heavy markup (+30% of their usual rate). We have negotiated transferring some work agreements (including mine) over to Giveth to bring those costs down.

Also, we didn’t know we paid Griff - who comprised almost half the cost of fundraising services.

Wins

That being said, we had some incredible wins from the fundraising team during S1, these include:

Grants

  • Octant (~$54k)
  • GG18 (~$2.9k)
  • Arbitrum Gitcoin Grant ($563 In Donations - Matching Pending)

Integrations

  • SuperFluid ($20k - Development In Progress)
  • ETC ($50k - Development In Progress)
  • Solana ($22.5k - Pending)

Season 2.5 Deliverables and Budgeting

Our second season will have a duration of 3 months beginning when our Snapshot vote is approved.

We have provided three options - GROW, SUSTAIN, SHRINK - each with its own set of deliverables and estimated budget. Voters on Snapshot will be able to choose whichever they prefer or as a fourth option - NO - signaling they do not think the WG should continue.

I personally didn’t charge many hours to DAO ops last term (if I did they were very few) because I didn’t realize that “fundraising” was part of the working group scope.

Also, I was really a lot of the firepower behind the successes of Octant, Gitcoin Grants & Arbitrum Gitcoin Grant
as I drafted & posted all the content for all these plus did a lot of the comms work around it.

Feel like a bit of an exaggeration to say these were wins attributed to the hours charged as “fundraising” last term.

What is the story w/ the Buddy system bot?

How much of @Nicbals & @freshelle’s time will this actually save?

I’m looking at a ±$4k different between grow & sustain for 3 months
will building this bot save that much in their time/salaries for the periods of time after?

The relationship between Dapp, Fundraising and DAO Ops is definitely confusing - However this is not anything new and we had the same setup in our DAO Ops Season 1 proposal which was clearly stated on the proposal.

DAO Ops Working Group Proposal

That being said I have been pushing for someone to lead a Fundraising WG so that we can have a clear WG to attribute our time spent Fundraising for Giveth (or even perhaps the Galaxy). Until that WG is established unfortunately DAO Ops is the catch-all for those expenses.

If you have any future questions or uncertainties on how to allocate your hours we can definitely spend some time to sort them out.

To your other question, the budget for the buddy bot was about $600 - currently @Nicbals & @geleeroyale are still working on it, albeit at a slow pace.

We could estimate about 10 hours saved quarterly by having the automations offered by the buddy system bot, this includes sending buddy reminders, sending peer review forms to contributors, sending all the necessary reminders as well as sending the peer review data to a given buddy, ahead of their call.

The $4k difference will mostly come from not doing the DAO health check as well as not developing the plan to change the way we handle rGIV distributions.
